Resource Center Help
The Building Energy Codes Resource Center is a search and database tool to assist you in finding information about energy codes and building science. It is also intended to be a central collection of energy code materials, graphics, videos, and other materials that can be used for the education and training of others about energy codes.
Navigation
Your primary method of navigation in the Resource Center is the toolbar, located new the top of every page.
From the toolbar you can:
- Browse by Topic - The articles in the Resource Center have been categorized by topic.
- Search by keyword - This works like most other web searches, allowing you to type in a phrase or keyword for more specific searching. More keywords will provide a more refined search. For information about wildcards and search tips, see the section on search help.
The "additional resources" and "related articles" on the right side bar.
Once you open an article in the resource center, the "related articles" navigation allows you to see other articles that have similar topics and keywords. Some of these articles may provide additional detail for the topic you are viewing.
The "additional resources" navigation provides a quick way to refine your search results by media type. For any search, clicking one of the additional resources links will display the other types of information available on that topic. For example, clicking "Videos" will return a search of only video materials available in the Resource Center that is related to the topic you are searching/viewing.
Search Results
Search results are displayed differently based on the media type selected from the drop down box in the upper left navigation. The default selection is "All Media" which will return search results from all categories, and sorted by media type. Only three search results for each media type are shown. To see other results for each media type, click on the "More..." link to see the full set of search results.
If a choice of media is selected from the drop down box (near the search box), all the search results of that type will be returned.
Downloading
To download graphics, click on the graphic to see a larger version. This image is the medium resolution file appropriate for web media. For print media, you should click the link below the image to download the "Full size JPG". This image will be the highest resolution version of the graphic available, and may be very large.
Choose the graphic size you need, then right click on the image and choose "save image as" to save the image on your computer.
For other document types, (such as PDFs) right click the navigation link and choose "save link target as" to open the file save dialog. You can also follow the link and choose file, then save from the upper menu.
